Zakopane is a city in the southernmost point of Poland, near the Slovakian border. In the Middle Ages, Zakopane was nothing more than a very small mountain village. In the 17th century there were only about 40 residents in the area. In the 19th century the area was discovered by tourists, artists and entrepreneurs who recognized the beauty of the surrounding area.
