Vlieland is a Dutch Wadden island. It falls under the province of Friesland. The island has the highest dune of all the Wadden Icelands with a height of 45 meters. Vlieland has an exciting history. In 1666, an English attack led by Admiral Robert Holmes took place. He destroyed one of the Republic’s largest merchant fleets. During the Second World War, Vlieland was part of the German Atlantic Wall. Fortunately, history is far behind the island and nowadays it is a beautiful holiday destination.
