Kaunas is the second largest city in Lithuania. The history of Kaunas dates back to the Roman Empire to folklore. From the Middle Ages Kaunas has known many varied and sometimes very turbulent years. It is controlled by both the old Tsarists Russia, the Soviet Union and the Nazis. However, the population never gave up and the country was truly free after the fall of the Soviet Union.
